What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectable substances used to restore or enhance facial volume, smooth out wrinkles, and provide a more youthful appearance. Commonly made from hyaluronic acid, a substance that naturally occurs in the body, dermal fillers are popular for their ability to add volume to lips, cheeks, and the under-eye area, as well as diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. One of the key benefits of dermal fillers is their immediate results and minimal downtime, allowing individuals to return to their daily activities shortly after treatment. They offer a non-surgical solution for aging skin, providing a plumper, smoother, and more youthful complexion. Additionally, dermal fillers can improve facial symmetry and are used in non-surgical rhinoplasty and chin augmentation, offering a versatile option for facial rejuvenation. Their temporary nature, lasting anywhere from 6 to 18 months depending on the type of filler and the area treated, allows for adjustments over time to maintain a natural appearance as the face changes with age.
Types of Filler
At Frontier Dermatology, we offer a full range of injectables to restore volume, smooth lines, and improve skin quality: hyaluronic-acid fillers for immediate, shapeable volume, biostimulators that prompt your skin to build its own collagen over time, and skin boosters that boost hydration and glow. Our board-certified dermatologists help you choose the right approach for natural, balanced results — never overfilled.
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Fillers
Instant volume you can see right away — precisely placed and adjustable.
Juvéderm — A smooth, FDA-approved HA gel that excels at softening wrinkles around the nose and mouth, such as nasolabial folds.
Juvéderm Voluma — Designed to restore youthful fullness and contour to the cheeks in a natural-looking way.
Restylane — A versatile HA filler that enhances volume and smooths wrinkles for a balanced, natural look without appearing synthetic.
Restylane Lyft — Larger HA particles for deeper lines, lip definition, and recessed acne scars.
Restylane Refyne & Defyne — Formulated with XpresHAn Technology™ to move naturally with your expressions; results last up to a year.
Biostimulators — Build Your Own Collagen
Instead of simply filling, biostimulators stimulate your body’s own collagen for gradual, natural-looking results that improve over time and last longer than most HA fillers. They’re ideal for patients who want to age naturally and restore volume and skin quality for the long term.
Sculptra — A collagen-stimulating injectable (poly-L-lactic acid) that gradually restores facial volume and firmness over a series of treatments. Rather than an instant change, results build subtly over the following weeks and months as your skin rebuilds its own collagen — and they’re long-lasting.
Radiesse — A unique biostimulator (calcium hydroxylapatite) that delivers both immediate volume and long-term collagen stimulation. It acts as a scaffold under the skin to restore structure along the cheeks and jawline, smooth deeper folds, and even rejuvenate the back of the hands — with results that continue to improve and can last a year or more.
Skin Boosters
Not every injectable adds volume — some improve the quality of the skin itself.
SkinVive by Juvéderm — A microdroplet hyaluronic-acid injectable that improves skin smoothness, hydration, and glow from within. Unlike volumizing fillers, SkinVive is designed to give your skin a healthier, dewier look and a subtle radiance rather than added volume — and results can last several months. It’s a great complement to fillers or a standalone glow treatment.
Not sure which is right for you? Many patients benefit from combining HA fillers, biostimulators, and skin boosters. At your consultation, our board-certified dermatologists will design a natural-looking plan tailored to your face and goals.

How long do dermal filler results last?
The duration of results from dermal fillers can vary depending on the type of filler used, the area treated, and individual factors such as metabolism and lifestyle. Generally, results can last from 6 months to over a year, and in some cases, up to 2 years.
Are dermal filler injections painful?
Most patients report minimal discomfort during the injection process. Many dermal filler products contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic, to reduce pain during and after the procedure. Providers may also use topical numbing creams to further minimize discomfort.
What is the recovery time after dermal filler injections?
There is minimal to no downtime required after dermal filler treatments. Patients can usually return to their normal activities immediately. However, there may be some swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection sites, which typically resolves within a few days.
Are there any risks or side effects with dermal fillers?
While dermal fillers are generally safe, there are potential side effects, including swelling, redness, bruising, and tenderness at the injection sites. Less commonly, there can be more serious complications such as allergic reactions, infection, or filler migration. Choosing an experienced and qualified injector can minimize these risks such as our highly trained board-certified dermatologists, nurse practioners and nurse injectors here at Frontier Dermatology
Can dermal fillers be removed?
Certain types of dermal fillers, specifically those based on hyaluronic acid, can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if the results are unsatisfactory or if there’s a complication. Other types of fillers are more permanent and cannot be easily removed.
How do I know if I'm a good candidate for dermal fillers?
Good candidates for dermal fillers are individuals looking to address signs of aging without surgery, have realistic expectations, and are in good overall health. It’s important to discuss your medical history, allergies, and aesthetic goals with a qualified provider to determine if dermal fillers are right for you.
